Oil Spill Planning

Contingency Plans and Site-specific Response Plans

Nuka Research understands the complex legal, practical, and operational issues involved in preventing, planning for, and responding to oil spills from vessels, facilities, pipelines, and production operations. We prepare graphically integrated, user-friendly contingency plans and manuals for government and industry clients to meet both operational needs and regulatory requirements.  We have experience with federal plans including FRPs, VRPs, and SPCC plans, as well as Alaska ODPCPs. We also provide compliance reviews for applicable local, state, and federal regulatory and permitting standards.

Nuka Research has been a pioneer in the arena of geographic response planning. We have developed Geographic Response Strategies (GRS), also known as Geographic Response Plans (GRP), for hundreds of sites along thousands of miles of coastline in Massachusetts and Alaska, using a collaborative workgroup process that involves responders, stakeholders, oil industry personnel, trustee agencies, and regulatory authorities. We manage and facilitate all phases of GRS development, from site selection through field validation of tactics and strategies.  We have also developed technical and procedural manuals for oil spill cleanup techniques, emergency towing systems, and oil spill water quality sampling methods.
